Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to take part. As Step Up September is a challenge to raise money for the Trussell Trust, we encourage all participants to fundraise if they can. If you are unable to fundraise but would like to make a one off donation you are able to self donate on your fundraising page or donate directly to the charity.
Do I need to raise a minimum amount?
We ask you to pledge to raise a minimum of £125 for Step Up September. The money you raise will help us to stamp out hunger in the UK.
What happens after I sign up?
We’ll be in touch to make sure you have everything you need to get going on your epic challenge.
What happens after I complete my walk?
Once the whole challenge has finished, we’ll be sending you your digital certificate. As a way of saying thank you, if you raise over £150 we will send you a medal. If you raise over £300 you will receive a medal and be entered into a prize draw to win a Fitbit.
Can I get a t-shirt to wear during the challenge?
Yes, we have a limited number of t-shirts available to purchase for £10 (including postage). Simply email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
How do I collect money for my event?
Once you sign up, your fundraising page will be automatically created and any donations collected on your page will come to the Trussell Trust. So please share your page with friends and family so they can donate to your challenge. Do remember that not everyone will use social media, so do email friends, family and colleagues who might miss out hearing about your brilliant challenge on social media.
You can also collect money offline, but please be sure to observe Government guidelines (www.gov.uk/coronavirus) if doing this.
How can I pay my fundraising to The Charity?
The money you raise will help us stamp out UK hunger one step at a time, and for that we are truly grateful!
All donations made to your JustGiving page will be transferred to the Trussell Trust automatically, so you don’t need to do anything.
If you have any offline donations, please send them to the address below, along with sponsorship forms or referencing ‘Step Up September’ and your name to: The Trussell Trust, Unit 9, Ashfield Trading Estate, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP2 8BJ

What is the challenge?
Starting on the 1 September 2020, and running throughout September we’re challenging you to Step Up, choose an iconic virtual walk or choose your own distance while raising vital funds.
How does the challenge work?
We have five different challenges to accommodate walkers of all abilities, whether you are just starting out, or are regularly out walking. There’s something for everyone to get active and challenge themselves. When you sign up, you’ll be asked the distance you would like to walk (based on an iconic UK walk, or you can choose your own mile challenge). To walk Hadrian's Wall you will challenge yourself to walk 84 miles during the month; Jurassic Coast is 96 miles; LOOP (London Outer Orbital Path) 150 miles; Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail 186 miles; the whole of Scotland from John O'Groats to Glasgow 280 miles or choose a mile challenge to suit you. Throughout the challenge you’ll need to log your miles walked on your own fundraising page, to reach your mile target.
Where can I complete the challenge?
You can choose to complete your miles wherever you like. Whether it’s in your living room, in your garden, in the park or on the pavement. You decide the pace and you decide the place. If you're able to cover your miles outside, we ask you to do so safely, following current government guidelines.
Do I have to walk my Step Up challenge?
If you’re a wheelchair user or have limited mobility, you can still complete the mile challenges or set your own distance. Making sure it is enough of a challenge means people will be more likely to sponsor you.
What are the best apps to use to track my miles?
There are lots of popular fitness apps and services you can use to connect with your fitness devices for this event, here are a couple of examples you could use:
To find out how to link Strava to your fundraising page, you can view the JustGiving help article here.
Or if you don't use fitness devices and apps, don't worry, you can log your miles manually on your Step Up September fundraising page!
Do I need to do this on a specific day?
No, you can take this challenge on at any time between 1-30 September 2020 and you’re able to join at any point during this time.
Can I take part in a team?
Yes! Once you’ve signed up to Step Up September and have created your fundraising page, you can create a team page to allow you and your friends and workmates to join your individual fundraising pages together so your fundraising contributes to a larger team goal.
Remember, you must sign up as an individual before creating or joining a team.
